Problem

Heidelberg Materials faced fragmented transport processes, relying on multiple disconnected tools for railway operations. The inefficiencies and lack of centralized data hindered productivity, real-time tracking, and the ability to manage transport plans effectively.

Solution

Everysens’ TVMS provided Heidelberg Materials with a unified, interoperable platform for real-time tracking, streamlined consignment notes, and analytics. The solution centralized railway operations, enabling proactive management and improved collaboration with service providers.

Challenges:

Fragmented transport processes | Lack of real-time visibility | Manual and time-consuming consignment note process

Today, there is a real need to digitize a number of business processes in the world of rail transport in order to increase efficiency and to improve the operational relationship with the various service providers in the logistics chain.

As part of its drive to digitize its transport, cement manufacturer Heidelberg Materials wanted to proactively monitor its transport from A to Z by automating tasks, and to increase the overall productivity of its rail activity.

Until then, Heidelberg Materials used a multitude of tools for the same procedure and was unable to communicate with all its carriers. The company then called on Everysens to work on the interoperability of its data and the centralization of information.

What were the challenges for Heidelberg Materials?

Poorly adapted tools

Before the deployment of the Everysens solution, the management of Heidelberg Materials' transport processes was complex: dealing with several railway companies, their tool only allowed communication with some of their carriers. Indeed, the cement manufacturer only had one tool that allowed them to automatically connect to a single railway company and had to send a document via email for another.

Although this tool was functional, it did not allow the entire transport reservation to be digitised, nor did it allow for the monitoring of its execution or compliance once it had been completed.

Moreover, they needed several tools to perform one procedure at a time: in other words, performing simple operations was unproductive and unproductive.

A clear objective: to simplify logistics processes

Heidelberg Materials was looking for an optimal improvement of its processes, but also for a thorough control of its transport plan.

The cement manufacturer wanted to have direct access to reliable and relevant indicators in order to be able to steer its logistics investments according to its real transport capacities.

Heidelberg Materials connects heavily on its collaboration with Everysens, which provides the only solution on the market that is truly adapted to its needs. The challenge of this project is to centralize transport information via a single, ergonomic and functionally rich interface.

How did Everysens meet the challenges of Heidelberg Materials?

Improving rail performance

The aim is to enable Heidelberg Materials to proactively monitor its transports from A to Z, by automating tasks. This is achieved by having a single tool for transmitting transport orders to its various railway companies and for monitoring the trains in real time. The aim is to increase the overall productivity of its rail activity.
