ID Logistics has been awarded, together with its client Danone Eaux France and its service providers Everysens and Regio Rail, the Grand Prix des Rois de la Supply Chain 2017 for their "private rail hub" project for the Evian brand factory. This high-profile recognition was awarded at the ceremony organised by Supply Chain Magazine on 19 January 2017 at the Salons de l'Aveyron in Paris.
Among the last eight finalists in the competition, the project by ID Logistics, Danone and Everysens was awarded the Grand Prix, which rewards the dossier that meets the most criteria in terms of " originality, innovation, difficulties overcome and results" .
At the instigation of Danone Eaux France, ID Logistic created in 2013 a multi-client operational management platform called IDEO, which manages all their transport flows (road and rail) at European level on behalf of several clients.
In order to meet the Evian brand's objective of achieving net zero carbon by 2020, a private rail hub was set up to meet the needs of flexibility, performance and visibility for the Evian factory.
The implementation of this project followed different stages.
Firstly, a Local Rail Operator (LRO) was set up to regularly evacuate production from the Ambérieu hub (Lyon region). This activity was entrusted to Regio Rail. IDEO then developed a global rail management software tool to provide better visibility of flows (Rail PL).
Finally, Danone and ID Logistics have chosen the start-up Everysens to implement a "connected wagon" solution based on the Internet of Things in order to provide total visibility of the location of wagons in service. This solution allows Danone to know in real time the state of the wagon: running, maintenance, transit stop, parking, etc. In the future, predictive algorithms could also be implemented to anticipate delays and other hazards on the route.
"After one year of operation, the project has lived up to its promise and more than one million pallets have been shipped through this new rail hub, i.e. 60% of the factory's volumes. Danone's ambition is to continue in this direction in order to promote rail and multimodal activity", says Corentin Cavrois, Logistics Director Europe for Danone's Waters division.
