Transport plans change. Can you keep up?

Stay in control of your rail freight, even after departure, with Transport Rerouting in Everysens.

In a nutshell

Rail freight can change mid-route and your system should keep up. With Everysens’ new Transport Rerouting feature, shippers can now update routes directly in the TVMS after departure. The result: full visibility, synchronized updates across teams, and minimal disruption, even when plans change last minute.

Rail freight isn't immune to the unexpected. Tracks are blocked. A terminal is down. A customer calls in a last-minute request. And suddenly, a transport that’s already on the move needs to head somewhere else.

Until now, that’s where most TMS platforms hit a wall. Once a train leaves the station, the system assumes it will stick to the original plan, even if reality takes a different route.

That’s why we introduced Transport Rerouting in our Real-Time Visibility module.

With this new feature, you can now reflect post-departure rerouting directly in the TVMS. Whether the change was due to infrastructure disruption or a customer decision, your teams stay informed and your visibility stays intact.

Turn surprises into strategy

When a transport is rerouted in real life, you can now declare the rerouting in the TVMS platform as part of an incident update. Instantly, the transport’s destination and ETA are updated across all relevant views, including in the planning and tracking pages, composition details and shipment links.

You no longer have to work around the system, duplicate data, or manage updates manually in parallel tools. Everything is synchronized in a single, shared source of truth.

Why it matters for shippers

  • Respond faster when things go off-track: Instead of losing visibility when plans change, your team knows exactly where the transport is going and when it will arrive.
  • Keep customer commitments on course: Even if the delivery point changes mid-route, you can still provide reliable, up-to-date ETAs and avoid surprises and incoveniences.
  • Ensure consistency across operations: From scheduling to tracking, the new transport plan is reflected everywhere in the TVMS with full historized traceability.
  • Minimize downstream disruption: If the rerouted transport is part of a multi-leg shipment, the following transport leg is automatically adjusted to match the new destination.

A real-world example

A transport initially bound for Site A encounters a sudden infrastructure issue. The carrier reroutes it to Site B to avoid delays.

With Transport Rerouting, the Transport Coordinator updates the new destination and ETA directly in Everysens’ TVMS. All teams involved, from supply chain to customer service, see the new plan reflected immediately. No confusion. No broken links in the shipment chain. Just clear, updated visibility.

A simple way to stay in sync

When a transport gets rerouted, you just need your system to keep up. That’s exactly what this feature does.

No more messy workarounds, no more second-guessing where your goods are headed. Just one quick update, and everyone’s on the same page: planners, partners and customers.

This is one of many features that were created to make your life easier. Discover the others on our module page.
